REGULAR BOARD OF EDUCATION MINUTES

December 19, 2011 – 7:00 P.M.

Paw Paw High School Media Center

Paw Paw, Illinois

 

President David Lilja called the Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of Paw Paw Community Unit School District #271 to order at 7:02 P.M. on Monday, December 19, 2011. Those answering roll call were:  David Lilja, Becky Moorehead, Jason Penman, Daryl Rosenkrans, Steve Richey and John Prentice.  Also present were Superintendent Robert Priest, Principal Chuck Schneider, Patty Torman, Mrs. Lynda LeMat and Mrs. Geri Larson, teachers from Paw Paw School.  

 

Steve Richey, seconded by Jason Penman, made a motion to approve the minutes of the Regular Board Meeting of November 21, 2011.   

Motion passed unanimously by a roll call vote, 6-0.

 

Jason Penman, seconded by Steve Richey, made a motion to approve the minutes of the Closed Session of November 21, 2011 as presented.

Motion passed unanimously by a roll call vote, 6-0.

 

Consent Agenda Items:

 

Becky Moorehead, seconded by John Prentice, made a motion to approve the Consent Agenda Items as presented:

A). Approval of the additions/corrections, as follows:

Senior Trip – All but three seniors have signed up to go.  The new student also signed up and was accepted.  Each student was given a list of activities that the student had to indicate which activities they would like to see or do. Daryl Rosenkrans, along with Angie Lampson, have agreed to drive the bus there and back with Mr. Schnabel driving his vehicle.  Besides driving the bus they would chaperone the students along with Jennie Hendren, Mr. & Mrs. Schnabel and Mrs. Sensenbrenner.  

Second reading and approval of policies: 2:250. 2:250-AP1, 6:150,7:305, 7:305 AP and 7:300-E1.

Discipline Report – Mr. Schneider gave a report on the discipline for the month, mostly minor offenses.  Second semester he was going to reduce the number of study halls from five to four since homework policy seemed to be working.

 

Principal’s Report:  

 

Mr. Schneider reported on the recent workshop held at the school with Reading Specialist Kellie Doubek.  She spent a morning in the building and all but one of the reading teachers were in attendance.  

Two high school students from Paw Paw were selected for State special honors in music. Sam Dunklau, who was chosen for the All State Honors Choir and Shannon Gallagher, who was chosen for the All State Choir.   Congratulations to both of them.  Mr. Schneider said they were looking into plaques to be placed on the wall in the band room for them and for any other students who excelled in music.

The student council, under the direction of Mrs. Jamroch and Mrs. Schmitt recently held a food drive for those in need and pets.  They delivered over 100 items to the NICE Center in Lee.

IVVC students were being dismissed from school at 11:20 due to the holiday schedule at IVVC.

 

Superintendent’s Report:

 

Mr. Priest gave out the schedule for the District Office for the holidays.   The building will be closed December 23rd, and 26th, and January 2, 2012.

 

 Committees 

Education – Mr. Prentice, two teachers and Mr. Priest attended the recent meeting.  They looked at progress monitoring and AIMS Web.  The elementary progress monitoring is growing and working well.  They are able to look at test scores and see students who need help.  Next meeting will be Monday, January 9th, 2012 at 5:00 P.M.

Athletics – Met recently and looked at the fall and winter sports programs.  There was some talk of whether or not the numbers would be there to field a baseball team this spring.  Also, Mr. Schneider is looking at price quotes for a videotaping machine for all sports.  He will report back to the board.   Next meeting will be Thursday, January 19th, 2012.

Transportation – did not meet.

Building – did not meet.

Becky Moorehead, seconded by Jason Penman, made a motion to adjourn to closed session of the Paw Paw Community Unit School District at 7:20 P.M.

Motion passed unanimously by a voice vote.

 

Steve Richey, seconded Becky Moorehead, made a motion to come out of closed session at 8:17 P.M.

Motion passed unanimously by a roll call vote, 6-0. 

 

Action Items:

 

Jason Penman, seconded by Daryl Rosenkrans, made a motion to approve Board Policies: 2:250. 2:250-AP1, 6:150,7:305, 7:305 AP and 7:300-E1. 

Motion passed by a roll call vote, 6-0.  

 

Daryl Rosenkrans, seconded by Steve Richey, made a motion to approve the employment of Mrs. Kim Waters as Pom Pon coach for the 2011-12 school year, and Ms. Liz Lemmon as a volunteer assistant.

Motion passed unanimously by a roll call vote, 6-0.
