REGULAR BOARD OF EDUCATION MINUTES

October 18, 2010– 7:00 P.M.

Paw Paw High School Media Center

Paw Paw, Illinois

 

President David Lilja called the Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of Paw Paw Community Unit School District #271 to order at 7:08 P.M. on Monday, October 18, 2010. Those answering roll call were:  David Lilja, Becky Moorehead, Jason Penman, John Prentice, Rick Siemers, and Daryl Rosenkrans. Absent was Principal Chuck Schneider, and board member Steve Richey.  Also present were Superintendent Robert Priest, Patty Torman, Mrs. Laurel Eichelkraut and Mrs. Lorrie Hill.

 

Rick Siemers, seconded by Becky Moorehead, made a motion to approve the minutes of the Regular Board Meeting of September 20, 2010, as presented.  

Motion passed unanimously by a roll call vote, 6-0.

 

Jason Penman, seconded by John Prentice, made a motion to approve the minutes of the Closed Session of September 20, 2010 as presented.

Motion passed unanimously by a roll call vote, 6-0.

 

Consent Agenda Items:

 

Jason Penman, seconded by Becky Moorehead, made a motion to approve the Consent Agenda Items as presented:

A). Approval of the additions/corrections, as follows:

 Principal’s Contract - CS

Appoint Mrs. Fore, Mrs. Torman, and Mr. Priest to accept Board Nominating Materials – This is standard procedure when there is an election.  The Board can do this in Action Items.

Joining an athletic team late – There was a handout by Mr. Schneider detailing the issue.  The Board may have to act on this at the next board meeting.

Operation Prom – Also a handout from Mr. Schneider from the Paw Paw Fire Department.  Mr. Art Fields, a fireman with the Paw Paw Fire Department, wrote out a request detailing that the Department would like to stage a mock accident scene with police, ambulances, a minister, parents, and a funeral director, to all the high school students before the 2011 Prom.  The board would take this under consideration.

 

Principal’s Report:  

 

Mr. Schneider was not present so his report was in the Board Packet.  Some of the items the Board will have to look at in closed session.

 

Superintendent’s Report:

 

Mr. Priest informed the Board about the progress of the MAP Testing that was concluded a few weeks ago.  The teachers seemed pleased with it, and can access student results so they are better able to make changes in their classroom.  John Prentice asked if it dealt with Spanish in any way?  Mr. Priest said it did not.  Mr. Prentice asked if there was any way they could tell how students were doing in Spanish?  Mr. Priest said there was, but to give him some time to gather that information.

 

 Committees

Education – They will meet October 25th.  Becky Moorehead said she will be unable to be there.

Athletics – The committee met and reviewed all the fall sports.  A short discussion was help on all the winter sports and the numbers.  High School girl’s basketball there are no varsity age girls out for the team, they are all younger.  They will have to move up Freshman and Sophomore girls to Varsity to make a team.

Transportation – New bus, #70, is here and it is a smaller bus than our usual route buses.   Jennifer Penman is the bus driver using it.

Building – Ficek Electric spent the whole day in our building replacing emergency lights both inside and outside.  The ROE was in our building to do their annual inspection and we passed without any issues.

Additional:   David Lilja read an award from the IASA for Mr. Priest, who served on the IASA-IASB Advisory Committee, and presented him with a certificate.

Becky Moorehead, seconded by John Prentice, made a motion to adjourn to closed session of the Paw Paw Community Unit School District at 7:30 P.M.

Motion passed unanimously by a voice vote.

 

Becky Moorehead, seconded by John Prentice, made a motion to come out of closed session at 8:30 P.M.

Motion passed unanimously by a roll call vote. 

 

Becky Moorehead, seconded by John Prentice, made a motion to approve the appointment of Mrs. Fore, Mrs. Torman, and Mr. Priest to accept Board nominating materials. 

Motion passed by a roll call vote, 6-0.  

 

Becky Moorehead, seconded by John Prentice, made a motion the employment of Brandi Ness as HS Poms Coach.

Motion passed unanimously by a roll call vote, 6-0.

 

Becky Moorehead, seconded by John Prentice, made a motion to approve the employment of Brandi Ness as JHS Cheerleading Coach.

Motion passed unanimously by a roll call vote, 6-0.

Becky Moorehead, seconded by John Prentice, made a motion to adjourn the Regular Board Meeting of the Paw Paw Community Unit District #271, at 8:31 P.M.
