REGULAR BOARD OF EDUCATION MINUTES

January 18, 2016 - 7:00 P.M.

Paw Paw High School Media Center

Paw Paw, Illinois

 

President Becky Moorehead called the Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of Paw Paw Community Unit School District #271 to order at 7:00 P.M. on Monday, January 18, 2016.  Those answering roll call were:  Becky Moorehead, Jason Penman, Heidi McKee, Chris Jones, Steve Richey, Daryl Rosenkrans, and Chris Fairchild. Also present were Superintendent Stan Adcock, Principal Chuck Schneider, and Emmylou Truckenbrod.  Also present were Karen Vlasaty, Sue Johnston, and Lynda LeMat and John Hoelzer (teachers at Paw Paw CUSD #271).

Jason Penman, seconded by Daryl Rosenkrans, made a motion to approve the minutes of the Regular Board Meeting of December 21, 2015 with a correction.   

Motion passed unanimously by a roll call vote, 7-0.

Chris Fairchild, seconded by Jason Penman, made a motion to approve the minutes of the Closed Session of December 21, 2015 as presented.

Motion passed unanimously by a roll call vote, 7-0.

 

Daryl Rosenkrans, seconded by Chris Jones, made a motion to approve the Consent Agenda Items as presented:

A). Approval of the additions/corrections, as follows:

      ED: $ 195,099.72  

  OP/M: $ 26,798.48   

TRANS: $ 6,149.85    

  IMRF: $ 7,174.47     

    TORT: $ 3,007.20     

CAPITAL PROJECTS: $ 0 

      WORKING CASH: $ 10,000 

           FIRE/SAFETY: $ 0    

       DEBT. SERVICE:        $ 134,794.80   

                     TOTAL:          $ 382,934.52  

B). Approval of the Treasurer’s Report as submitted by Eunice Rogers, District Treasurer;

C). The Financial Reports as presented.

Motion passed unanimously by a roll call vote, 7-0.

Open Forum – Sue Johnston asked the Board to keep live communication with the parents, especially concerning Special Board Meetings. Mr. Adcock responded that the Board is now aware of the parents’ concerns and the meeting agenda is now on the school website in addition to being posted on the front doors.

Acceptance of Coaching Resignation (CS)

Principal’s Report:  

The second round of the Quiz Bowl is 2/14/16 in Rockford, this will be aired sometime in March. The recent cold day has now pushed the last day of school and graduation is tentatively set for May 20th and 8th grade promotion on May 19th. The high school musical will be March 4, 5 and 6. 

Superintendent’s Report:

The current IVVC director is retiring and Mr. Adcock is on the interview team. The second round of interviews is on 1/20/16. Also discussed was the criteria for calling off school for snow/cold weather. Mr. Adcock uses a variety of resources including driving the roads, speaking with the road commissioner, and discussing with other local superintendents. For cold days, the cutoff point is about -20 degrees with the wind chill.

Additional: John Hoelzer asked if the Board knew anything about the property tax freeze. The Board said that basically everyone is becoming a PTELL district, but since we are already a PTELL, we will not be affected.

Jason Penman, seconded by Daryl Rosenkrans, made a motion to approve the Maternity Leave Request for Mrs. Heather Nelson.

Motion passed by a roll call vote, 7-0.  

Daryl Rosenkrans, seconded by Chris Fairchild, made a motion to approve Junior High Scholastic Bowl Job Description.

Motion passed unanimously by a roll call vote, 7-0.

Chris Fairchild, seconded by Steve Richey, made a motion to accept JH Cheerleading Coaching Resignation of Keri Dalki.

Motion passed unanimously by a roll call vote, 7-0.
